My MISSION.

Through my own self-reflection and SOUL searching, it has brought me to the conclusion that my MISSION in life is to articulate my own trials and tribulations, in a way that EMANCIPATES me and EMPOWERS other people, specifically those with a similar cultural background. I want to help others make meaning of their experiences & to own their own stories, despite how terrifying it can be, despite the pressure to keep our low moments entrenched in secrecy. There’s such beauty in loving ourselves through the uncertainties & challenges, that is truly where “the work” lies, & that is how we tap into true bravery and vulnerability. Once we’re able to share our stories with those who have earned the right to hear our meaning, we conquer our own shadowy parts and rebirth our more authentic selves.

From that, came the birth of ASHLEY SINGH THERAPY, my medium for connecting with those that align with my mission, values, and goals.

My JOURNEY To The Work.

I have been adjacent to this field in some capacity for over 8 years. The most impactful being my own healing through encountering my very own therapists, who have been a bright light on my path. It is from these transformational therapeutic experiences that I am here with you to continue to be a light, as your journey begins.

It wasn't always that easy and simple. The person and therapist that I am today was carved out from my experience as a brown woman that faced external pressure, doubt, fear, judgement, and my inner critical voice cracking my foundation, in which I was finally able to weave through a newfound internal resilience, balance, confidence, and wisdom. It is my journey as a therapy client that was able to spearhead this work. Though my time as a client was truly life changing, I believe that having the guidance of someone who looked like me, faced similar assimilation issues, someone that struggled with owning their identity, someone who understood what it was like to be the eldest daughter in an immigrant family, someone who knew how to navigate boundaries in a South Asian family, someone who navigated a multicultural experience, etc., could have helped me be the best version of myself, long ago.

Now, I can proudly say that I am a first-generation woman, eldest daughter, that comes from an immigrant family, born to parents of Punjabi and Fijian roots. These intersections are what makes me, me. At one point in time, it wasn't always easy to own parts of these identities that I didn't necessarily agree with or want to take on. But now, I have cultivated my identity through more than just the titles. I get to decide what parts of these cultures are really mine, which values align with mine, and I get to be proud of so much more than what is on the surface. For example, I am extremely biased in every way when it comes to this conversation (I admit my faults from time to time). But, I think there is nothing more fun in the world than a Punjabi wedding. I have come to see Punjabi as a regal language and am proud that Fiji Hindi is my native tongue. I truly believe that Fiji Indian food is top tier and have spent the better part of the year learning all of the recipes, so that the food we eat does not face the impending threat of dying out. My lineage, heritage, and ancestry has become such a huge part of my story, and this is by conscious choice, not by chance-- And certainly not dictated by anyone else. That is all I could ever want for anyone else that also has any South Asian background and connection.

It is incredibly difficult to be a person who breaks cycles in archaic cultural systems, but it's work that must be done, in order to create a better world for us and those who come after us— and may face similar struggles. It’s how we build a better humanity. We have to shed the internalized shame, refute the negative inner voice, and diffuse the external pressure, through strengthening our own wisdom and knowing. It is here where I want to offer my message of hope and to continue to guide other South Asians on similar journeys home to themselves.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and learning more about me!
